Club Update

Two of the club Flying Fifteens have now been fettled: Ffred and Beige'n Blue have new and identical mainsheet systems, which will make swapping boats easier for unfamiliar crews, and effective kicking straps. Shroud tension, critical to upwind performance, is being sorted and unnecessary shiny bits of stainless steel discarded in favour of simplicity where possible.

Chris has also stripped off all the old antifouling from B'n B, which should give her a fraction of a knot more speed. The same treatment is planned for Ffred and Black Boat, if time allows. Any volunteers to help Mike and Donald? It's a messy job, but an hour's worth if three tackle it at once.

There's some work needed to bring the Picos into readinesss, and new covers are ideally needed. Paul Driver is the man to speak to.

Meanwhile the club skiff, Loki, is drying out in an Osborne shed awaiting keel trimming, repainting and general fettling, ready for the season. Rumour has it that the attractive figurehead is to be replaced by a featherlight carbon fibre replica, filled with helium, all aimed at enabling the commodore to continue rowing at the bow without skimping on his breakfast.

The kabes and oars which brought the LBSC team three bronze medals at last year's regatta (one more medal than Ulla, in other words) are to be refined further, but details remain sketchy, literally as the skiffologists ponder, doodle and debate the merits of 3:1 gearing, weight, balance, catch, power to weight ratio and deep quantum mechanics. Which suggests they'll be using the same oars as last year.

The club is now fitter for purpose than it has been for some time, the only remaining job being to paint the passsageway floor, once the flood frrom the leaking loo has dried out. The carpet could do with a serious cleaning session. Any volunteers?

Stand by for a committee meeting announcement.
