Donald's Do, 25th June, 6.30pm for 7pm, club house

A wee reminder that on 25th June (that's this Saturday) The Honorable Donald Buchanan will be celebrating 70 years on the planet (although which planet is open to question). Buchanan records state that Donald appeared at 9am precisely on 25th June 1946, to the obvious delight of his mother who lost no time in presenting him, hastily clad in a pair of net curtains, to the awaiting press outside the back door of the modest family house in one of the more salubrious back streets of Auld Reekie, while Uncle Willie, neighbour George, Gertrude from No 27 and Gertrude's son Hamish (engrossed in his Beano) looked on. In the foreground a Glaswegian street urchin, later identified as one Iain Boydey, attempted to steal the limelight. Despite their difference in age, upbringing, birth place, Iain and Donald were destined to become lifelong pals. Which goes to show that East is East and West is West but Edinburgh and Glasgow can rub along together.

Donald has made it known that he wants no cakes with candles; children or dogs at his party, nor flowers or presents, so we all know what to bring then...
