Snakes and Ladders

The Flying Fifteen ladder races kicked off last night, Thursday, on a blustery, often viciously squally evening with surprising (or maybe not so surprising) results.

Paul and Emma in Paul's boat faced Mike and Beth in the Red boat. Four races were held - simple windward/leeward courses, starting near the Wee Pier to a buoy about half a mile upwind - the protagonists in two boats taking it in turns to steer.

In the first race between Paul and Mike, it was the latter who made the break, crossing the line ahead of the former commodore and after a further three races Emma emerged to top the ladder, unbeaten in her races against Beth and Mike.

Mike's win over Paul put him in third place behind Beth, who also managed to slip past Paul (who was forced to make a 180-degree penalty turn in one of his races after clipping the buoy).

So, the ladder now looks like this
Emma (2)
Beth (1)
Mike (1)
Paul (0)

Who's going to knock Emma off her perch this weekend? I suspect Paul will be looking for revenge, in an exclusively family affair (long silences over the breakfast table then...)
