LATEST LATEST! Two Bronzes for Loki!

Loki's men and women scooped two bronze medals at the Coigach Regatta on Saturday. Cool northerlies across Baddentarbert Beach saw up to 10 boats racing parallel to the beach.

The start and finishing lines tested the ingenious new world marker buoy system, devised and built by the Vice Commodore and his lady wife, but it was decided not to attempt a turn. The Open proved to be a warm up for the men and women over 50s, prior to the main over 50s event.

The ladies were the first to medal, with a bronze, followed by the men.

The LBSC teams were: women, (from bow) Katie, Shona, Gill, Karen, Gilly (cox); men (from bow) Robert, John, Sandy, Paul, Gilly (cox).

Loki's crew were clearly delighted with the results, and the craic was, as usual, excellent. On an otherwise great day on the water the only grumblings were that the Harbourmaster sold out his 100 burgers  too soon (not soon enough, according to the Harbourmaster) and from several other teams who claimed that starting procedures might have been fairer and that skiffs on the shoreside lane benefited from better conditions. As usual, conspiracy theories abounded...

There was no doubting Coigach's strength, as they wiped the board with a powerfully impressive display of rowing. Bodes well for a blistering competition at the Worlds in Ullapool.

From the Coigach Blog:

Coigach Home Win

The 2013 Scottish St Ayles skiff regatta season started with the Coigach Regatta on 18 May.  Crews travelled from Helmsdale, Ullapool, Newhaven, Newburgh, Anstruther, North Berwick, Portobello, Loch Broom SC joined the hosts' two skiffs to test themselves over a 1km straight multilane course.  An offshore wind came and went during the day, testing the skill of the coxes as well as the braun [sic] of the rowers.

Although there were spirited rows from the visitors, notably a couple of great results from the Helmsdale crews, Coigach dominated the competition, winning every one of the categories on offer.
